Beyond The Boardroom: How a legal firm builds community ties
Introduction
In celebration of Singapore’s 60th year of independence, law firm and social service agency Fei Yue Community Services launched a five-part initiative called “Together We Grow, Together We Thrive”. Running from April to August 2025, this event series ties in with SG60’s national call to build a more inclusive and united society.
Rajah & Tann Singapore, consistently ranked among Singapore’s best law firms in the charities, not-for-profit and pro bono category, is known for integrating purpose into its legal practice. In addition to their pro bono legal services, the firm was the first law firm in Singapore to focusing on children and youth, the elderly and the disadvantaged. Their commitment to corporate purpose across various dimensions was recognised when they were conferred Champion of Good (2024 – 2027).
Established in 1991 and 1996 respectively, Fei Yue Family Service Centre and Fei Yue Community Services serve diverse community segments, including families, seniors, and individuals with special needs. Together, they’re putting community at the heart of celebration by designing shared experiences for around 1,800 participants, from seniors to children with special needs and their caregivers.

Shared experiences across generations
The events bring different community groups together through celebration, play and a strong sense of nostalgia. Each activity creates opportunities for meaningful intergenerational interaction, designed with inclusion in mind.
The night fiesta, for instance, transforms a familiar community space with retro decor, themed food and live music, sparking joy among seniors while evoking collective memories of earlier decades. This encourages seniors to adopt an engaging lifestyle to avoid social isolation. An inclusive sports day, on the other hand, allows children of all abilities to play alongside their peers, thanks to thoughtfully adapted games and environments.
Another highlight is the kampung-themed carnival, featuring traditional games such as five stones and chapteh, which bridges generations through shared heritage. These moments, all of which are simple, fun and deeply human, demonstrate what it means to build an inclusive society.
“Supporting these events that provide fun and joy for our seniors, children with special needs, their families and caregivers is a very meaningful way to promote inclusivity and unity across all generations, and to contribute to the community. It is very fitting to commemorate SG60 in this way, and we hope that these celebrations are marked with fond memories and good camaraderie for all,” said Mr Ng Kim Beng, Managing Partner at Rajah & Tann Singapore.

Building purposeful partnerships with the social sector
This recent collaboration is yet another milestone in the longstanding partnership between Rajah & Tann Singapore and Fei Yue. In 2024, Rajah & Tann Foundation made a one-time donation of S$100,000 as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Rajah & Tann Asia, a regional network of law firms which Rajah & Tann Singapore is a part of. This contribution is now being channelled to support a series of initiatives organised by Fei Yue including the SG60 series of events.
What makes this five-part initiative work is the strength of the partnership behind it. Rather than operating as a typical donor-beneficiary relationship, Rajah & Tann Singapore and Fei Yue came together as co-organisers, guided by shared values and mutual trust.
Fei Yue brought their expertise in community care, engagement and event organisation, while Rajah & Tann Singapore contributed not only funding but also the time and energy of dedicated staff volunteers who supported event planning, logistics and on-the-ground activities throughout the five-month programme.
The firm’s corporate social responsibility arm and volunteers also supported and participated in Fei Yue's Ocean Wonders carnival in 2024, which welcomed more than 500 participants including children with special needs and their families, further demonstrating the power of partnership in creating inclusive and joyful community experiences.
And this kind of continuity matters. It shows how professional services firms can move beyond transactional giving to co-create meaningful and sustained impact. It’s pretty empowering when a corporate partner treats social services as equals and works closely with them to bring ideas to life.
Reflecting a broader culture of care
For Rajah & Tann Singapore, their purpose isn’t a one-off campaign. It’s a relationship-first approach, one that’s built over time and grounded in presence, partnership and care. This five-part initiative reflects a deliberate shift towards more relational and community-centred corporate giving.
The firm’s efforts with Fei Yue signal a broader trend in corporate citizenship, one that prioritises empathy, shared ownership and sustained engagement over short-term impact. Their events not only create memories for participants but also nurture a deeper understanding and camaraderie among sectors.
By creating inclusive experiences that promote dignity, intergenerational connection and a shared national identity, the initiative also contributes to the larger SG60 vision: a Singapore where all feel seen, valued and included.
Celebrating shared spaces, building shared futures
More than a series of community events, “Together We Grow, Together We Thrive” is a celebration of the values that shaped Singapore over the past 60 years: unity, respect and resilience. It’s a timely reminder that companies of all sizes can play a part in nurturing these values through thoughtful action.
Looking ahead, Rajah & Tann Singapore and Fei Yue will continue their partnership beyond SG60. Future potential engagements include skills-sharing workshops, pro bono legal services, sustained volunteer programmes and more collaborative events to serve underrepresented communities. Their story shows how purpose-driven partnerships can become a cornerstone of business practice – and how every interaction, no matter how small, can help strengthen the social fabric of Singapore.
