#GivingAsOne: How CapitaLand mobilises collective action for communities

As Singapore marks 60 years of nation-building, SG60 invites organisations to reflect on a simple but powerful question: how can business success meaningfully support the communities they’re part of? For CapitaLand, one of Asia's largest diversified real estate groups, it’s about bringing people together to give back, not as individuals, but as one.

At the heart of this commitment is #GivingAsOne, CapitaLand’s global community initiative that rallies staff, business partners, tenants, and customers to volunteer and help uplift vulnerable groups in the communities where it operates. The initiative carried added significance in 2025 as it coincided with SG60, CapitaLand’s 25th anniversary, and 20 years of giving by CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF).

CapitaLand used these milestones as an opportunity to reinforce a belief it has consistently acted on: that when collective action is thoughtfully supported, it can create lasting social impact.

Designing a purpose that people can act on

For the 2025 edition of #GivingAsOne, CapitaLand partnered with Give.Asia, a free fundraising platform, and the SG Cares Office, a national volunteerism movement in Singapore, to encourage volunteering among its staff, business partners, tenants, and customers in causes aligned with education, health, and well-being.

Participants could choose activities through Give.Asia’s volunteer platform that suited their interests, schedules, and comfort levels. Activities ranged from mentoring students and supporting children from lower-income families to befriending seniors, packing and distributing daily necessities, and helping charities with logistics and operations.

For every volunteer hour logged in Singapore, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) donated S$20 to support the same causes. This created a clear link between individual effort and broader community impact.

These hands-on experiences did more than deliver immediate help. They gave volunteers a deeper understanding of the social challenges faced by different groups in Singapore, helping to build empathy, awareness, and a stronger connection to the communities around them.

Turning volunteer hours into sustained support

A defining feature of #GivingAsOne is its clear and accessible impact model. By matching every volunteer hour with a S$20 donation, CapitaLand amplified individual contributions into broader financial support.

In Singapore, the results exceeded expectations. From August to October 2025, volunteers logged more than 53,000 hours – surpassing CapitaLand’s original target of 50,000 – and unlocked up to S$1 million in donations.

CapitaLand channelled these funds into the Collective for a Stronger Society (CSS), a multi-year initiative by the Community Foundation of Singapore (CFS) and Community Chest. CSS focuses on providing sustained, integrated support for lower-income families, particularly children and youths.

Rather than offering one-off assistance, CSS takes a long-term view. Its programmes address education, social development, and well-being together, recognising that these challenges are interconnected and can’t be solved in siloes, and that lasting change requires consistent and coordinated support over time.

Globally, the scale of #GivingAsOne shows how deeply CapitaLand embeds purpose into its ecosystem:

  • S$2 million in pledged donations from CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF)
  • 17,000+ staff, tenants, and community volunteers
  • 100,000+ volunteering hours contributed
  • 130,000+ beneficiaries supported
  • Participation across 36 cities

By involving tenants, partners, and customers alongside employees, CapitaLand extended ownership of social impact beyond its organisation. Community-building became a shared responsibility, not just a corporate initiative.

The role of partnerships in building what matters

Collaboration sits at the core of #GivingAsOne.

Working with SG Cares, a national movement led by the SG Cares Office under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), helped align the initiative with Singapore’s broader efforts to build a more caring and inclusive society.

SG Cares encourages everyone living in Singapore to put their values into action through volunteerism, grassroots efforts, and everyday acts of care. Companies can support this movement through Giving.sg, the national online platform that allows individuals and organisations to donate, volunteer, and fundraise for more than 600 registered non-profits.

CapitaLand’s partnership with Give.Asia further enabled it to offer a wide range of accessible volunteering opportunities through a central platform. For companies, Give.Asia also provides tools to host branded fundraising or volunteering campaigns, making it easier to activate employees and partners around shared causes. You can visit their website to learn more about how to set up campaigns: https://help.give.asia/

Together, these partnerships supported CapitaLand Hope Foundation’s broader campaign, “Building What Matters”. The campaign places people, relationships, and shared responsibility alongside business growth, reinforcing that long-term success depends on strong, connected communities.

A long-standing commitment through CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF)

Underpinning #GivingAsOne is CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF), the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand Group.

Established in 2005, CHF supports initiatives in education, health, and well-being, with a focus on children, youths, and seniors in communities where CapitaLand operates. Beyond funding, CHF actively advocates volunteerism as a core part of building a caring and inclusive society.

“Volunteering is at the heart of CapitaLand’s mission to create a positive social impact,” shared Tony Tan, Executive Director of CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) and Chief Corporate Officer of CapitaLand Development.

“Through volunteering opportunities, we extend our reach and provide support to those who need it most,” he added. “It’s inspiring to see our teams coming together, united by the common goal of making a meaningful contribution to society. Not only does it enrich the lives of those we help, but it also enriches our own lives by fostering a sense of community and purpose.”

Giving together, going further

#GivingAsOne shows how collective action can create meaningful change.

By exceeding its volunteer-hour goals and channelling contributions into sustained programmes for children and families, CapitaLand demonstrates how companies can integrate purpose into everyday operations, not as an add-on, but as part of how they do business.

As Singapore reflects on SG60 and looks towards the future, initiatives like #GivingAsOne echo the mission of Company of Good (COG): supporting organisations that want to align business success with positive social outcomes. When people are empowered to give together, the impact goes beyond numbers, strengthening communities, building shared values, and helping shape a more inclusive future for all.
